Max Cynader, Ph.D.

Founding Director, Brain Research Centre, University of British Columbia (UBC)
Founding Director, Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health at Vancouver Coastal Health and UBC

Dr. Cynader is the Founding Director of the Brain Research Centre, and the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health at Vancouver Coastal Health and UBC. In addition, he holds the Canada Research Chair in Brain Development and is Professor of Ophthalmology at UBC. Dr. Cynader is also a Member of the Order of Canada (CM), Member of the Order of British Columbia (OBC), Fellow of The Royal Society of Canada (FRSC), Fellow of The Canadian Academy for Health Sciences (FCAHS), and a Principal Investigator in Canada’s Network of Excellence in Stroke. Dr. Cynader has also been active in the industry, founding multiple companies including NeuroVir, Wavemakers Research, Primary Peptides, and Synaptitude. In July 2016, Dr. Cynader began his appointment as a College Chair of the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) College of Reviewers.

Saul Isserow, M.D.

Director, Centre for Cardiovascular Health at Vancouver General Hospital
Director, Cardiology Services at University of British Columbia Hospital

Dr. Isserow completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Witwatersrand (South Africa) in 1986. He then moved to Saskatchewan, Canada where he worked as a General Practitioner and completed training in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Dr. Isserow later completed training in Internal Medicine (1994) and Cardiology (1996). He is currently the Director for both Cardiovascular Health at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) and Cardiology Services at University of British Columbia Hospital (UBC Hospital).
